About GLR

Green Leaf Records is the ultimate underground label, bringing you real music from real people: uncensored material straight from the source.

GLR was originally formed as a fictional record label for a semi-fictional band, before being resurrected as a "for-free" non-profit label, providing free music hosting for poor but talented musicians in 2006.

GLR is a response to the inevitable banality of the mainstream, bringing you the very best in underground music from a diverse collection of musicians and artists from all over the known world - stream or download over 40 hours of music for free!

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q.   What's the catch?

A:  There is no catch - the musicians on GLR record their music for the world to hear for free; it is essentially a donation to the audience.

Q.   How do I download the music?

A:  Click MUSIC on the main menu - this will take you to the discography. Click the album art to play the album, or click 'download' on the right to download a .rar package including the mp3s and artwork. You can also download both albums and individual tracks from the artist pages (go to BANDS).

Q.  What's a .rar file?

A:  A .rar file is like a .zip file, it is basically a container for other files - in this case, mp3s and jpgs. More info on extracting .rar files can be found here.

Q.  How do I book a band - and will they play for free?

A: GLR acts simply as a conduit - we display information and deliver music; to book a band, send them a message or get in touch through one of many social network pages - this information can be found on the band's profile page. And no, they probably won't play for free.

Q.  Do you make CDs?

A: In the beginning a few CDs were made, and a limited amount were made for the GLR: Homegrown compilation, but as a non-profit organisation this isn't a particularly viable option. If enough interest is generated we may consider requests in the future.

Q.  Can I submit my music to GLR?

A: Sure, we'd love to hear your music - email info@greenleafrecords.com with some tracks and a bit of info and we will consider it for inclusion in the mighty GLR playlist. Please don't be offended if we don't get back to you quickly, our emails aren't checked as regularly as they should be!

Q.  Can I submit a review?

A: Again, no problem - either email your review to info@greenleafrecords.com, or post it to our message board.

Q.  I work for a major record label - what the hell do you think you're doing!?

A: Free Tibet, man!

Q.  Help - where's the music-player?

A: If you can see a message telling you to install flash, click it - you need to update your browser's flash player to be able to listen to the music player. Obviously all older iPads are without flash too, but don't worry we are working on a non-flash version of the site which will be operational very soon. If you are experiencing any other problems with the player, try the obvious things like clearing your cache and restarting the browser - hell, restart the computer if you have to. If you're still having problems, drop us an email at the address below and we will try to find a solution!

New Releases from Luke Kear

Back from a long hiatus, this week sees several new releases from Luke Kear, AKA Colourful Thief:

The first is the brilliant little EP Here Comes The BANG! from Luke's newest side-project "BANG!", fusing his characteristic lyrical wit with an entirely new scope of sound, alongside band-mate Hywel Taylor.

Following on from this - and for the first time ever - Luke is releasing a pair of demo albums under his own name, suggestively titled Stroking It and Stroking It Softer.

All three are now available to stream or download from our discog page.

Heavy Stuff - GLR Rocks!

First we had the covers comp, then Ital music... that was soon followed by "GLR Freaks out" and today we're releasing the last in our little compilation collection, before the release of "Homegrown, Vol. II" on the 21st Dec.

"Heavy Stuff" brings you the heaviest tracks from the GLR vaults in one place. So crank up the volume and grab a beer, it's heavy man!

What an eventful day! GLR have been all over the centre of Bristol today, distributing our newest compilation CD (GLR Homegrown Vol.I) far and wide.

Mega props to the 200-odd naked cyclists who descended upon college green to combat climate change, special thanks to those who accepted our free CDs, despite having no pockets to put them in!

stay green!

Okay, since last I posted news we've done a lot: Kev's recent demos have borne fruit culminating in his newest release, LP An Ever Changing Reflection; Danny Dasher continues his psychotropic journey through the music of the soul with his second LP Artwork Showcase; Alex French has returned to the scene with plans for an upcoming EP (The Last EP); Luke Kear compadre River of Leaves has released his first LP Me and Nyx (although I have yet to create his band page); Kesey's band page is now up, along with links to his music - although there are still some elements that need patching up, content-wise... and finally we have a few compilation records in the works due for release by or at the end of the year. So in all its been a busy month and we show no signs of slowing down.

An update on the update: Okay, so we're nearly there - there are just a few more minor alterations/additions to go...

P-Murder still need a downloadable songs list
Kesey, Alex French and Dawn all need band pages
Kesey's records need adding to the discog page
Contact page needs adding
and last but not least, I'm going to browse around for more forum upgrades.

There may be other things I've forgotten about, but either way it'll all be done by the end of the day tomorrow.

Pax y mucho gusta

The GLR Musical Learning Resource Centre is now open for all aspiring musicians who wish to fill their spongey heads with knowledge. Its purpose? Whoever said knowledge was power probably wasn't far off the mark... visit

Oh my god - fucking A! The long awaited and much anticipated return to me of my Squier Strat. Regular Deceptiphiles will be familiar with my recent two month long ordeal as I've been bitching about it non-stop. Basically my parents agreed to pay for a full service for my birthday/christmas, and that guitar has only been professionally seen to on perhaps just one other occassion so this was quite a big deal for me - but the two months without it was just killing me. Now that it has returned expect a couple of rock-based numbers. Probably covers... I've always wanted to cover Rubber Soul's "The Word" and something tells me I should pay more special attention to Bob Dylan. I'm thinking a renewal of "Like a Rolling Stone"... anyway, yeah. Glad to be back.

GLR welcomes Welsh experimental/acoustic artist Colourful Thief to it's fold. Look out for more info coming soon...

09/02/2007
Well, this was sprung on me at fairly short notice and it's a bit of a break from the mainly guitar-driven stuff I've been up to recently, but it's all good. Opening for Kielo from around 8 or 9 at Ross's party, which is on Friday 23 February and is at 12 Caerleon Road. If you're around get down, bring some booze. This is how it is: 1st half of my set - Acid-Rock/DnB/Reggae, I'm chucking in all sorts really. 2nd half - pure ravin' tunes. I am told that Kielo plays hardstyle. Be there or be without.
